The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Today, much is made of “mission statements” or “vision statements” for organizations and churches. Christ’s mission statement is written above.
Note it’s all about helping others, not building a kingdom. It’s not about being effective or efficient. It’s not about numbers or goals. When Jesus walked on this earth, He was just one of millions. We forget that. In a crowd, He often could not be found. The gospel accounts make plain He spoke often to individuals and small crowds. He went out of His way to minister to just one person or a family.
Just something to think about next time you work on “your” vision statement.
