1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
“But if we walk in the light…”
The definition of walking in darkness, according to 1 John 1:6, is to “do not the truth.” So to walk in the light (the opposite of walking in darkness) we must “do” the truth. To do the truth, we must ultimately walk with Jesus because Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life” and in John 8:12 He said “I am the light of the world”.
Light in the scriptures is truth and Jesus is both light and truth. Therefore, one can always be “walking in light” if one walks with Jesus. To walk with Him, we must know and understand things the way they “truly” were, are, and will be and do those things that reflect that knowledge and understanding. Walking “in the light” is to know as Jesus knows and understands and to live our lives accordingly.
To stray from Christ is to stay from truth and light. To stray from truth and light is to stray from Christ.
Lord, may we walk “in the light” today and everyday.
