Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Profit or loss.
If one does poorly in a business venture, he “loses his shirt.” Bet on the wrong thing spiritually and he loses “his own soul.” Day in and day out, men go to their graves rejecting the simple gift of salvation through Christ Jesus. By focusing on the treasures of this world they miss out on the treasures of the next.
Profit: Eternal life. A new body, a new heaven and earth. Communion with God. No pain, sorrow. No sin. Knowledge and joy.
Loss: Eternal death, “where their worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched.” Darkness, pain, and torment. Hell forever. No hope. Sorrow and regret.
Christ or the world. The creator or the created. Timeless or temporary. It has been said, it is not foolish to let go of those things you can not keep to lay hold of things you can not lose.
Lord, may all men see the profit in receiving Christ as savior before it is too late!
