The Host Of Heaven

BFDCF5E7-17D6-4FBB-A643-80E55A3ACEC7Nehemiah 9:6 Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

Heaven, earth, and the seas. The LORD has made them all. He preserves them all.

Heaven, earth, and the seas. Differing in glory, inhabitants, and contentment, they show us that to forsake God is to leave His glory, His people and His peace.

First, heaven, earth, and the seas differ in their glory. Heaven is the highest and best place. The brightest place. New Jerusalem is there. There is no night in heaven. Next is earth. Earth is between heaven an the seas. There is day and night on the earth. Sunny days, but cloudy ones too.  Last and lowest are the seas.  The seas filter out the light making colors fade to grey and then to black the deeper one goes in the seas.

Second, heaven, earth, and the seas differ in their inhabitants. God lives in heaven. The saints, the angels, and the cherubim live in heaven too. After heaven comes the earth. Man lives on the earth. He is a sinner. Jesus Christ died for sinners and was buried on the earth. Lastly the seas. The seas have their life, but it becomes more grotesque and bizarre the deeper one goes.

Finally, heaven, earth, and the seas differ in “contentment”. In heaven there is holiness, joy and peace forever more. Heaven is a place of rest, a place of worship, and a place of God’s glory. Beneath heaven is the earth. The earth has its share of joy and peace, but these are intermingled with sorrow and war.  Finally the seas. The seas often are in turmoil and attacked by storms.  Pressure increases to extraordinary levels the deeper one goes. There is much fear in the depths.

Heaven, earth, the seas. They point us to this thought; forsake God and you are headed down, leaving His glory, His people, and His peace.

Lord, thank you for your creation and what it shows us. Lord, thank you that because of Christ we are on our way up and not down,.
